Marysville’s mayor typed a daytime attack; councilman, authorities principal ferret out suspicious

Marysville’s mayor and a city councilman were supposedly assaulted in the city’s midtown Thursday mid-day as they waited at a crosswalk with the city’s authorities principal.

Chris Branscum informed the Marysville Appeal-Democrat he was punched in the back in the daytime attack as he, a plainclothed Principal of Authorities Chris Sachs and Councilman Dom Belza stood at Fifth and D roads in midtown Marysville. Belza was additionally struck prior to ferreting out and taking on the believed enemy to the ground.

The Marysville leaders were waiting for a conference with Rep. Doug La Malfa, R-Richvale, at the website of the Hotel Marysville, gutted by a fire in June.

” My very first response was I believed I obtained struck by a vehicle,” the mayor informed the Appeal-Democrat. “After that half a minute later on, a person removes on a dead run. … (Belza) was the quickest off the mark, took him down regarding midway down the block on the walkway.”

Detained was Derek Don Hopkins, 36, the paper reported. Hopkins is unhoused and is recognized to Marysville authorities, Sachs informed the paper.

Hopkins was billed with 2 offense matters of battery and begged blameless throughout an accusation Friday in Yuba Superior Court. He continues to be kept in a Marysville prison instead of $50,000 bond and is anticipated to go back to court Sept. 6.
