WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A munitions factory in Poland was rocked by an explosion on Monday, igniting a blaze that took the life of a 59-year-old employee and wounded another individual, according to authorities.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed that there appeared to be no indicators of an “external influence” being responsible for the conflagration that erupted at the Mesko facility.
In recent times, Poland has experienced a series of infernos, prompting examinations into whether such incidents could be acts of disruption by the secret services of Russia or Belarus as reprisal for Poland’s backing of Ukraine.
The detonation transpired at the Mesko establishment situated in the municipality of Skarzysko-Kamienna, revealed through a communiqué released by the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (Polish Armaments Group), a state-owned consortium encompassing various firms in the defense manufacturing sector.
“It’s an enormous calamity for the whole of the Polish Armaments Group,” stated the organization on its digital portal, announcing that a probe was in motion.
The enterprise is engaged in producing armaments, including projectiles. Skarzysko-Kamienna is positioned approximately 135 kilometers (85 miles) to the south of Warsaw, the nation’s capital.
